Although the idea of a website can be simple the process of making it a reality can feel daunting. The needs of a tech startup with a specific product focus vary greatly from the needs of a home user looking to set up a small ETC shop. Therefore my first question is usually "What do you need?"
Service Tiers
Tier
1
A hosted solution that I set up and you fill in and maintain. I create a WordPress site for you on a public server then show you how to access your new website, fill in your own content, and I leave you to it.
The least hands-on web design service for clients with simple needs
Tier
2
A hosted solution that I set up and design to meet your specifications. Going beyond the capabilities of a CMS like WordPress we can design a site around your brand. At this tier the finished product is a completed website using language and images chosen by you and implemented by me.
Flexibility without long-term commitment. The most commonly chosen tier
Tier
3
A hosted or in-house solution custom designed to meet your specifications. The possible web technologies for this service are far greater than those of the tier 1 and 2 services, and it starts with the hardware used to host the content.
Data security, freedom from third-party hosting, and full control over the stack from the hardware up
Cost
The cost of each service is largely dependant upon the specifics of the work required. As they say, the devil is in the details. That said, a bare-bones WordPress site can be done for between $75 and $150 so please don't feel like planting your flag in the online universe has to break the bank. There are recurring expenses for website owners but they are generally small. For example, hosting services for CMSs (like WordPress) start at around a few dollars per month.
